On Saturday we went to Antietam- the Civil War battlefield that was the bloodiest day in American history- on or off American soil (23,000 casualties). Since it is so hot here, we were lucky that most of the tour is driving, but we did get out for a few of the highlight. This is the Burnside Bridge, where the Confederates had a major advantage on the Union- they were up a hill hiding in the woods and the Union was on a field trying to cross the narrow bridge. One thing that we love about living here is that we have the opportunity to see all of these cool places that we have only read about before and we get the chance to learn more about our history.
